Rega pioneered the use of rigid, lightweight plinths. The clever use of a lightweight particle core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the basis for the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic original Planar range. The new Planar 3 takes this design philosophy to the next level.

A lightweight acrylic laminate plinth reinforced using a new and improved double-bracing system fitted specifically where increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mount and the main hub bearing) which forms a structurally strong ‘stressed beam’ assembly.

This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances, which would add unnatural distortion to the music. Similarly, a heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise, directly into the spinning record.

Using reinforcements instead of full skin allows for double-thickness phenolic resin in these key areas while further reducing the weight of the base, directly addressing the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.

Each Nd3 is meticulously handcrafted by our highly skilled technicians. The stylus profile is a high-quality elliptical profile artificial polycrystalline diamond, which is bonded to a round titanium rod. The design uses an all-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve precise channel balance. The Nd3 also features optimized pole spacing for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics, resulting in a much wider soundstage than previous models.
