The Acoustic Solid Solid Wood Bubinga is a high-end, German-engineered audiophile turntable manufactured by Acoustic Solid (Wirth Tonmaschinenbau). Known for blending precision heavy-mass mechanical engineering with striking natural aesthetics, it is built around a chassis constructed from real Bubinga wood.

Design & Engineering

  • Mass-Loaded Construction: It uses heavy-mass principles to combat resonance. The combination of a dense hardwood chassis and a thick aluminum platter dissipates structural and acoustic vibrations before they reach the stylus.

  • Bubinga Plinth: Bubinga (African Rosewood) is chosen not only for its rich, reddish-brown grain and visual appeal but also for its extreme density and natural damping characteristics.

  • Platter & Bearing: Features a massive, CNC-machined aluminum platter—typically 50 mm to 60 mm thick—resting on a zero-friction ceramic ball bearing coated with a specialized damping layer.

  • Outboard Motor: Uses a completely decoupled, standalone AC motor enclosed in a heavy aluminum housing. It drives the platter via a thin silicone string or belt, isolating electrical and mechanical motor noise from the tonearm and cartridge.

  • Microprocessor Control: Powered by an external microcontroller-driven power supply (often the Acoustic Solid M2/M3 controller) that allows fine speed adjustment (33 ⅓ and 45 RPM) with pitch stability.
