The Atoll AM300 Evolution (EVO) is a dual-mono Class A/B power amplifier handcrafted in Brecey, Normandy, France. Positioned near the top of Atoll Electronique’s power amp lineup, the Evolution series refines the previous AM300 design with enhanced thermal protection, lower noise floor, and improved circuit immunity against difficult reactive loudspeaker loads.

Key Design & Architecture

  • Dual-Mono Power Supply: Features two substantial 440 VA toroidal transformers (880 VA total) dedicated to the analog audio stages, plus an independent 5 VA transformer for logic and standby control. Filtering capacitance totals 83,600 µF using low-ESR, shielded MKP coupling capacitors.

  • Triple Push-Pull MOS-FETs: Each channel uses six MOS-FET power transistors in a triple push-pull arrangement, biased in Class A/B. This output topology gives Atoll amplifiers their characteristic sound—fast transient response, authoritative bass grip, and a smooth, fluid midrange.

  • Evolution Circuit Refinements: The EVO update features reworked audio stages engineered to make the amplifier immune to capacitive speaker loads, an upgraded signal-to-noise ratio (now 105 dB), improved bipolar transistor and LED current sources for voltage stability, and enhanced thermal protection.

  • Build & Materials: Built into a 2 mm steel chassis with an 8 mm micro-blasted and anodized brushed aluminum front faceplate. The internal circuit boards use a double-sided nickel/gold finish.
