Experience timeless audio craftsmanship with the legendary McIntosh MC2100. Built during McIntosh's golden era of American audio engineering, this iconic power amplifier delivers a robust 100 watts per channel into 4, 8, or 16 ohms (or 200 watts in bridged mono).

Famous for combining solid-state reliability with McIntosh's signature Autoformer technology, the MC2100 delivers a warm, rich, tube-like musicality while retaining deep bass control and effortless headroom. Its rugged open-chassis design, massive power transformers, and industrial build quality ensure it remains a prized centerpiece for audiophiles and vintage gear enthusiasts alike.

  • Power Output: 100W RMS per channel (stereo) / 200W (mono)
  • Design: Industrial open-chassis with Autoformer impedance matching

The McIntosh MC2100 is one of the most iconic early solid-state power amplifiers produced by McIntosh Laboratory. Built from 1969 to 1978, it bridges the gap between McIntosh’s classic vacuum tube era (like the MC275) and its modern solid-state component lines.

Unlike many McIntosh models featuring the signature black glass front panel and blue VU meters (such as its sister model, the MC2105), the MC2100 relies on an open-chassis, chrome-and-black industrial enclosure similar to their classic tube amps.

Key Features & Design Highlights

  • Output Autoformers: A signature McIntosh technology. The autoformers match the amplifier’s output transistors to 4, 8, or 16-ohm speaker loads. This guarantees that the amp delivers its full 105 watts per channel regardless of the speaker's rated impedance, protecting both the amplifier and speakers from thermal overload.

  • Sentry Monitor Circuit: An early implementation of McIntosh's current-limiting protection circuit. If a short circuit occurs at the speaker terminals, the circuit prevents transistor damage without degrading sound quality under normal operating conditions.
  • Conservative Power Rating: Like most vintage McIntosh gear, 105 WPC is a conservative bench spec. Cleanly maintained MC2100 units regularly measure between 130W to 140W per channel before clipping.
  • Industrial Build Quality: Features heavy copper and steel construction, massive hand-wound transformers, and potted power supplies.
